Darkwing Duck 2017

Alliumstyx's AU based around his Darkwing Duck / Ducktales 2017 oc Ambrosia

Art Credits

In general, most art will be created by me Kozmotis / Alliumstyx.
Art within the 'shows' style used on this website is referenced from a combination of screenshots of the show unless if it's a direct redraw - in which case, well it's a direct redraw.
However, some art is art I've received through commissions or trades. These will be credited here, for ease over accidently clicking on the image and being sent to another website.
The designer name will link to where the image or design is original hosted, which is in aid of any username changes happening while the website is live.

Disclaimer

I do not claim to own all of these characters.
I have made my own edits to their designs but this is still inspired by their looks and artstyle from Ducktales 2017 as well as the Darkwing Duck original show and on running comics.

Core Characters

Characters of my own:

  • Alador Rosewood

  • Snap

  • Agent Victory

  • Agent Feathers

  • Maya Feathers

  • Tox

Characters 'taken' from the media:

  • Drake Mallard / Darkwing Duck

  • Jim Starling / Nega Duck

  • Launchpad McQuack

  • Gosalyn Waddlemeyer

  • Bushroot

Characters that are not based or taken from the canon can all be found on my art account here.
Some are my own design, some I got from others, all are accurately credited there, as well as under my art credits page.
There is also additional art, and information, and designs for many characters who may just make text cameos or be considered Easter Eggs.

Alongside these characters, I am also using the name & concept of SHUSH from Darkwing Duck [and mentioned within Ducktales 2017], the base universe and world building of Ducktales 2017 - as well as the names and powersets of original Darkwing Duck Villains.
These are however, reimagined into their own characters simply with the recognition that their powers are very similar or the same.
Other characters from both Ducktales 2017 & Darkwing Duck will also be mentioned but pay no real core role. Again I do not claim to own them.

Darkwing Duck 2017

This entire Alternate Universe and my take on the Darkwing Duck that was built upon during the Ducktales 2017 run is based around my OC and Sona, Ambrosia Rosewood.
His main story developed from the fact that he was mutated to gain similar abilities to Bushroot, a villain from the original Darkwing Duck franchies, and a fictional character within his own universe.
Despite the fact the core designs and personalities of the characters come from Ducktales 2017 [or if they were under-developed/didn't appear in that series, the original Darkwing Duck] I have made my own tweaks to their designs and personalities. Including unique story arcs both with and without my oc being involved.
I will warn and remind you now. These 'two' franchises are a big comfort to me, this universe is very self-indulgent and I will not take critique on that as this is all for fun.

Character sheets

To keep designs consistent, I have created character sheets for all of the 'main' cast in the same format and within the Ducktales 2017 style.
These is a work in progress, and currently not everyone has one, but they will be uploaded as they are finished.
Ambrosia, Drake & Launchpad all currently have their sheets.

Height Guide

In another aid to keep designs consistent, a height guide has been created to compare the heights across the core cast, which is visible here. It doesn't need to be followed exactly, especially with Ambrosia's leaf hair making him look slightly taller and Drake & Jim both having hats in their alter-egos.
Gosalyn is shortest, being a child and Launchpad is the tallest. Jim & Drake are the same height to draw on their character parallels. With those two and Ambrosia all being taller then the average duck.

Ambrosia Rosewood

The Main Character.

Ambrosia is a unique Mallard, due to the mutations and experiments he went under, though his eyes have always been 'semi-circles' and slightly down turned.
His legs now more root like ending in points then the webbed feet of a normal duck.
Slightly taller then the average duck, his legs actually add all of the height difference to them, though this does leave him significantly taller then he would have been before his mutations.

Due to what happened to him, Ambrosia is the only character currently, with a guide showing his previous ages - as there is a rather extreme change to his looks.
As a child, before he was taken, 'Alador' as he was before, was a mostly rich brown Mallard with the cream markings on his stomach, face and hair.
However, due to his time within the labs and cells, his feathers became bleached from stress and the treatments, having the cream spread across his body, leaving the brown mostly on the tips of his feathers like the other Mallards have, but uniquely still completely brown arms.
After his 'final transformation' none of this brown remains on Ambrosia - which is another reason he changed his name, feeling like he isn't the same duck.
Along these lines, his eyes also change through the key periods. As a child he had the standard, black eyes with the triangle highlight cut out of them. Due to how sad he was in the lab, he looses the triangle highlights and his eyes become a very dark dusty blue. When first in his 'main' form, he only had the dusty light blue eyes, the white highlights - a key feature of his design - only appeared after he became happy and confident in who he now is.This has now been updated to include his future look, set around +20 years after his current and main design. Ambrosia has leant more into his plant self, both due to his own confidence and encouragement from those around him. He's also continued to grow, like a plant, good care has caused him to flourish, his cheek leaves and shoulder leaves have also become longer and larger. His tail has even grown an additional layer of leaves, smaller inside the larger previous ones. This Ambrosia is frequently seen sprouting flowers when he's happy, pulling them off to gift to his beloveds.

Drake Mallard / Darkwing Duck

The Hero.

Drake Mallard, he is the pinacol of hero in this universe even if he doesn't always believe in himself.
Like all Mallards in my take to the universe, he has pale cream and brown feathers. His brown feathers feature mainly on the edges of his body, such as his feather tufts on his head and cheeks but also the tips of his tail. These positions mirror Jim Starlings, to further play on the two characters being easily confused - though there is a soft gradient behind the harsh 'spikes' of Drakes brown sections.
His outfit is based off of the Ducktales 2017 variant, but also the original Darkwing Duck costume - making it resemble the one Jim wore during the show more then the one he did. A carry over from his clumsy crime fighting style, Drake Mallard is always covered in plasters, something he makes sure to remove before transforming into his alter ego.

Launchpad McQuack

The Sidekick.

Launchpad McQuack, an incredibly tall duck, not really known for his intelligence but defiantly known for his loyalty and willingness to help. This Launchpads colours have been brightened, his beak a unique bright yellow colour to make him stand out even more from the rest of the cast. His hair a bright orange and a teal cap which very rarely comes off of his head.
Launchpad's shirt is the same purple as Darkwing's uniform, a tell-tale that he's connected to the hero even when acting like a civilian. His general outfit is the same as his Ducktales 2017 appearance, but all of his colour palette has been changed around while still keeping the same aesthetic.

Gosalyn Waddlemeyer

The Young Adventurer.

Gosalyn keeps the unique pale brown she gets in her 2017 appearence, though her hair is darkened to better resemble the bright red shade she has in her original appearance. This pale brown also helps her stand out from the rest of the mainly pale cream ducks.
The child has one sleeve the paler green then the other, the colour which features around the hemming of the rest of the jacket. This is to resemble something the child has made herself, well repaired herself but she didn't quite have enough of the right material.
About average height for a child of her age, her clothing sticks to be more tom-boy in style.
The child has a couple of key friends.
Her best and closest being Dewey Duck due to the fact he already knew Drake's secret identity. She is also friends with his brothers and friendly with the rest of the kids in their group.

Jim Starling / Nega Duck

The Heroes Foil.

Despite being Drake's senior by 11 years, the older duck is designed to resemble Drake incredibly; despite the two having no relation to each other then having both held the title of Darkwing Duck at some point.
However, his gradient between his brown and cream feathers is more jagged. So are his feathers, his cheek feathers no longer groomed together neatly.
His clothing is ripped up, showing how he's having to work with what he's got but also adding to the more unhinged nature of the character through visual cues.
It was also important for me, that even as Jim, he still rather obviously is the same man - with his now swirled eyes, sharpened teeth and still that air of broken clothing.

Key Side Characters

Within this universe there will be many side characters, key or not that may have many or a few cameos.
If they are listed here they are either a unique character to this universe [of my own design or a design I have gotten a hold of]
or
They are a canon character but I have some key edits or additions to be added that are important for this universe.
This does not include personality or relationship changes, though most will become clear through any shared information about the universe.

Key Side Canon Characters: That won't get design Changes

There is a chance this list will be added to or characters removed if I have a specific need.

  • Bushroot

  • Scrooge McDuck

  • Dr Thaddeus Waddlemeyer

  • Gyro Gearloose

  • Fenton Gearloose

Victory Claw / Agent Victory

The Mistaken Hero

Name: Victory Claw
Title: Agent Victory
Species: Vulture
Age: 45
Gender: Male - He / Him
Sexuality: Straight
Career: High Ranking SHUSH Agent
Role: Trying to capture and arrest Ambrosia as a 'failed FOWL experiment'.

Victory is very driven by his morals, and was trained by Ambrosia's parents before they retired from SHUSH. His morals however, are incredibly black and white, he only sees good and evil and as far as he's willing to admit, anything that came from FOWL is evil; and if Ambrosia is comfortable in his feathers, then he must be evil to.
His assignment, the one at the top of his list is to arrest Ambrosia, and from the file he's managed to compile from FOWL's own documents, he sees Ambrosia as something extremely dangerous and should have never been allowed to escape.
He also does not like Gizmoduck and Darkwing Duck, he thinks they just get under his feet and are no help other then looking good to the public

April Showers

The Nosey Investigator

Name: April Showers
Title: N /A
Species: Duck
Age: 20s
Gender: Female - She / Her
Sexuality: Straight
Career: Internet Reporter / Investigator
Role: She's trying to learn more about SHUSH and this 'Plant Pilcher', Darkwing Duck is also on her radar.

April is incredibly curious, wanting to learn and share this information with as many people as possible – a true investigator at her core even if she sometimes gets herself too personally invested. She is very nice, many know her as somebody to go to when you need some advice or just an ear to listen to you – there are very few who can say a bad word about April and they’re not normally one to be trusted.Though SHUSH has a specific eye on her, she seems to have a knack of finding out things that she shouldn't know. She is also the first person who caught sight of the ‘Plant Pilcher’ [Ambrosia] in St Canard, her photo really isn’t the best however and many thought it was faked. Though it did catch SHUSH's eye after they discovered someone with those abilities escaped.

Ambrosia's AU

Following alongside what is set out for the Darkwing Duck characters within the 2017 universe, there are multiple universes that can be reached.
A Key example is this Alador:
Alador pushes himself out of his comfort zones to be the best agent he can, where he’d prefer solitude and silence, he pushes himself to work parties and non-mandatory meetings to be seen as a key cog in the wheel. Its morals are unique, often bending to match SHUSH’s because that’s what’s needed of an agent of his calibre, but it doesn’t see right or wrong as something that must be followed; and as he ages the enticement of wrong and what entertainment that could provide him is becoming more and more tempting. He’s an extreme people pleaser however, his lead does not currently need to be clipped on to keep him loyal and at SHUSH’s every beck and call.

A tired Agent, Alador has spent a lot of his life either as an agent or training for it. Swiping up any job SHUSH provided as he turned 15 and now in his mid-30's it's getting more exhausted but he doesn't want to stop, not yet.Alador pushes himself out of his comfort zones to be the best agent he can, where he’d prefer solitude and silence, he pushes himself to work parties and non-mandatory meetings to be seen as a key cog in the wheel. History

His existence splits of from the same point that Ambrosia came into existence. He was never kidnapped by FOWL, his parents talking about their time in SHUSH is what encouraged himself to study and push himself to become an Agent. The agency never shut down, never believed themselves to have truly taken down FOWL so wouldn’t put themselves into retirement, correctly believing they were still needed.
Alador would take every job they offered him, first hired as a cleaner while he was only just 15 and desperate for them to see him and what he can do. It didn’t take them long to rise through the ranks doing this, alongside all of the studying he was doing, both using SHUSH files but also from things he picked up on other agents talking about. His parentage defiantly helped, but SHUSH also greatly respected how much work the duck put in himself to get it all done, the way he wouldn’t tell others about it.
Agent Rosewood is now a highly respected Agent of the agency, but it’s beginning to wear on him. He's in his 30’s and won’t retire from active duty, he doesn’t mind paperwork but considering that as his only job bores and frightens him, it dislikes the idea of just teaching the next generation of agents into SHUSH’s ways. He doesn’t mind the occasional student he’s given to train, remembering how he was once like them, wide eyed and in love with it all, if anything it makes it really sink in how his age is coming up faster than it should be; but he’d never want to spend all day everyday with this, and tearing those down that need it for their own sakes. SHUSH want’s him to slow down, if he’s honest so does his body but Alador doesn’t.
He wants that excitement back that he once had as a young agent, and he’s not so sure how far he’s willing to push himself to get that feeling.

Notes

-Got yanked out of his own universe at one point into the ‘Prime/show’ universe and reunited that Gosalyn with Dr Waddlemeyer.
-Tragic Hero, it’s always wanted to be one of the good guys and honestly still does, but it’s growing boring and exhausting to him and it’s lost it’s enticing sparkle.
-Doesn’t have the best relationship with his parents, they do cards for birthdays and only ever see each other at Christmas
-Seems to be leaning more towards becoming a form of villain or at the very least not the cleanest agent, he’s at least very enticed by it.
-This was not aided when SHUSH asked him to disguise himself to try and work out why none of the villains ever took SHUSH's offers for help / redemption
-Beginning to question how many times he can excuse kissing Negaduck if SHUSH ever finds out about it, he’s probably beyond that number by now anyway.
